Early life and background

Ajinkya Deo was born on 3 May 1963 in Shirgaon in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. Raised in a family with strong ties to the film world, he is the son of actors Ramesh Deo and Seema Deo and the elder brother of filmmaker Abhinay Deo. He attended Babubhai Pannalal Mohanlal High School in Mumbai and later graduated from Sathaye College. As a young man he had ambitions to become a pilot but ultimately pursued a career in acting.

Career

Deo launched his acting career in Marathi cinema, making his debut in the 1985 Marathi film Ardhangi. He gained wider recognition with the 1987 Marathi film Sarja, in which he played the lead role; the film went on to receive the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. He expanded into Hindi cinema with the film Sansar in 1987 and has worked across Marathi, Hindi and English projects.

On television, Deo appeared in episodic programming including the Zee Horror Show during the mid-1990s. Beyond performing, he has taken on creative and production responsibilities: he is credited as a writer for the screenplay of the Bollywood film Ek Krantiveer: Vasudev Balwant Phadke (2007), has served as executive director of the Prabhat Entertainment television channel, and in 2016 he co-produced more than 20 episodes of the series 24: India.
