Ankush Rathee Biography

Ankush Rathee is an Indian kabaddi defender from Rohtak, Haryana, who rose through junior and domestic circuits to earn recognition in the Pro Kabaddi Liga

Early life and background

Ankush Rathee was born on 30 June 2003 in Rohtak, Haryana. Raised in that city, he developed as an athlete in a region known for producing contact-sport talent. His father is Ashok Rathee and he has a brother, Amit Rathee, who is also a kabaddi player.

Physical profile

Rathee is listed at roughly 1.75 m (5'9") in height and about 75 kg (165 lbs). His reported body measurements include a 40-inch chest, 34-inch waist and 14-inch biceps. He has black eyes and black hair.

Career

Ankush began his formal kabaddi training at the Deepak Niwas Hooda Foundation in Rohtak and competed in district- and state-level tournaments before earning selection to the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Sonepat kabaddi team. He progressed through junior national competitions and represented Chandigarh at the 47th Junior National Kabaddi Championship in Suryapet, Telangana.

In 2021 Rathee entered the Pro Kabaddi League environment when Bengaluru Bulls signed him as a franchise-nominated young player for season 8; he did not, however, appear in any match that season. The following year he was acquired by Jaipur Pink Panthers as an existing young player for season 9. Season 9 became a breakthrough for him: he played 24 matches, recorded a 67% tackle strike rate and scored 89 points overall.

During that campaign he set several marks for a debutant, becoming the first player in season 9 to exceed 70 tackle points and collecting nine high-fives. His defensive form earned him recognition as the Best Defender of the Season in the Pro Kabaddi League’s ninth edition.

In 2023 Jaipur Pink Panthers retained Rathee ahead of season 10, with the player purchased for Rs. 30 lakhs to continue as a left-corner defender in the new young player category. At the international junior level, he captained India at the 2nd Junior Kabaddi World Championship in Urmia, Iran, in February 2023; his side won the tournament, becoming Junior World Champions.

Later in 2023 Rathee represented the Services Sports Control Board at the 37th Indian National Games in Goa, where his team took the kabaddi gold medal in November.

Public profile

Rathee’s performances on the domestic and junior international stages have positioned him as a promising young defender in Indian kabaddi. He has been recognized with league-level awards and has worn the orange sleeve in the Pro Kabaddi League after leading in tackle points during season 9. Off the mat, his reported personal possessions include a Mahindra XUV500.

Latest updates

In 2023 Ankush Rathee added to his list of achievements by captaining India to the junior world title in Iran, winning gold at the 37th National Games with Services in Goa, and being acquired by Jaipur Pink Panthers for Pro Kabaddi League season 10. He continues to be listed as an unmarried athlete from Rohtak pursuing a professional career in kabaddi.
