Kai Cenat Biography

Kai Cenat is an American streamer, YouTuber and rapper from New York City who rose to national attention through high‑energy livestreams, viral moments and

Early life and background

Kai Carlo Cenat III was born on December 16, 2001, in New York City. He was raised in a family with Caribbean roots: his mother is from Trinidad and Tobago and his father is from Haiti. Cenat grew up alongside three siblings — including twin brothers Devonte and Kaleel and a sister, Kaiya — and was primarily raised by his mother.

Cenat attended Frederick Douglass Academy and later enrolled at the State University of New York, Morrisville, where he studied business administration. He left college in 2020 to focus on content creation full time.

Career

Cenat began publishing videos in 2018, first gaining traction with prank and challenge content on YouTube. After joining the collaborative YouTube group AMP, he appeared regularly alongside other creators and shifted more of his focus to live streaming in February 2021, moving from pre‑recorded uploads to Twitch broadcasts that combined gaming, reactions and personality‑driven entertainment.

He expanded into music in 2022, releasing his debut single "Bustdown Rollie Avalanche" alongside rapper NLE Choppa and appearing in music‑related projects such as the trailer for Polo G's song "Distraction." That same year Cenat’s streams began to feature high‑profile guests, and he continued to build a large, engaged audience.

In January 2023 he launched a month‑long subathon, a marathon livestream event that further amplified his subscriber growth. By late February 2023 he reached a peak of more than 306,000 subscribers on Twitch, making him the most‑subscribed channel on the platform at that time. His unconventional streams — including sleep streams — generated significant viewership and revenue, and in 2023 an estimate attributed to his sleep broadcasts reported monthly and annual income figures tied to those streams.

Cenat has also branched into directing, helming a music video for A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie in 2023, and he has appeared in other creators’ projects, including a 2023 music video with Offset. His profile continued to rise in 2024 with appearances such as participation in the NBA All‑Star Celebrity Game and a role in a high‑visibility video produced by MrBeast titled "50 YouTubers Fight for $1,000,000."

Awards and recognition

Cenat’s streaming work has been recognized by several industry awards. He won Streamer of the Year at the 12th Streamy Awards in 2022, and he later received Streamer of the Year honors at The Streamer Awards in both 2023 and 2024. In 2024 he also took home Best Just Chatting Streamer at The Streamer Awards and was named Favorite Gamer at the Kids' Choice Awards.

Public profile

Cenat’s energetic style and vocabulary have contributed to internet slang trends; words associated with his streams and community have entered broader conversations about online culture. In early 2024 he announced an official partnership with Nike, becoming the first streamer reported to sign with the brand.

His large livestreams have set viewership records; for example, a December 2023 broadcast featuring Nicki Minaj drew more than 348,000 live viewers. He has collaborated with a range of artists and creators across music and online entertainment.

Controversies and legal matters

In August 2023, a PlayStation 5 giveaway event announced for Union Square, Manhattan, drew thousands of attendees and escalated into a chaotic situation that involved property disturbance and police response. Cenat was arrested in connection with the event along with dozens of others. In May 2024, the Manhattan District Attorney dropped charges against him in exchange for an apology and a payment of $57,000.

Latest updates

In 2024 Cenat continued to appear across high‑profile projects and events, including the MrBeast production and the NBA All‑Star Celebrity Game. He maintained a presence across social platforms and sustained partnerships tied to his streaming career. As of 2024 he remains unmarried and continues to build his audience across Twitch, YouTube and other media.
