Malavika Mohanan Biography

Malavika Mohanan is an Indian actress from Payyanur, Kannur District, Kerala. Trained in mass media and raised in Mumbai, she began her film career in 2013

Early life and background

Malavika Mohanan was born on 4 August 1992 in Payyanur, Kannur District, Kerala. She grew up in Mumbai and completed a graduation in Mass Media from Wilson College. The daughter of cinematographer K. U. Mohanan and Beena Mohanan, Malavika developed an early familiarity with film sets through her father’s work.

During her formative years she spent time on shoots and once accompanied her father to a commercial featuring the Malayalam star Mammootty. That visit led to an introduction to acting when Mammootty suggested she consider a role in a film, an encounter that helped steer her toward a screen career. Malavika has said she originally considered working behind the camera as a director or cinematographer before moving into acting.

Career

Malavika made her feature film debut in the Malayalam industry with Pattam Pole in 2013. She designed several of her own costumes for that film after the costume designer fell ill early in the shoot, and the experience sparked an interest in fashion that later led her to launch a fusion clothing label called The Scarlet Window.

Her performance as Saral in the Malayalam film Nirnayakam (2015) brought broader recognition and earned her a Special Jury Award at the Jaycey Awards. She has worked across multiple South Indian film industries: the Kannada film Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi (2016), the Tamil film Petta (2019), and she appeared in the Hindi film Beyond The Clouds (2017), in which she played the sister of Ishan Khatter. Earlier casting discussions for that Hindi role involved other well-known actresses, but Malavika ultimately secured the part.

Beyond feature films, Malavika has appeared in television commercials for brands including Hero Honda and Mathrubhumi Yathra, and in 2019 she shared a national endorsement promoting a beverage. She has also walked the runway for fashion designers and featured on the cover of SMARTlife Magazine in 2019.

Public profile

Physically, Malavika is listed at about 163 cm (5 feet 4 inches) with black hair and black eyes. Her public biography lists interests such as dancing and listening to music, and she is known to collect rings. During college she took part in an eve‑teasing awareness campaign called Chappal Maarungi.

Her parents are K. U. Mohanan and Beena Mohanan; her brother is Aditya Mohanan. Malavika’s father is an established cinematographer who has worked on several notable Hindi films. She is unmarried.

Malavika has been active on social media and has encountered public debate over her posts; in 2019 she responded directly to criticism about a photograph she shared online. She has also been associated with the fashion world, both through runway appearances and her own clothing venture.

Latest updates

Malavika’s cross‑industry filmography and visibility in advertising and fashion continued into the late 2010s. Her notable recent credits include the Hindi film Beyond The Clouds (2017), the Tamil film Petta (2019), and commercial endorsements that reached a national audience. She remains a recognizable presence in Indian cinema and fashion, with ongoing projects in multiple languages.
