Early life and backgroundMallika Dua was born on 18 July 1989 and raised in New Delhi. She attended The Modern School, Barakhamba Road, before enrolling at Delhi University, where she spent time at Hindu College and later at Lady Shri Ram College for Women for a journalism course she did not complete. She moved to the United States to study theatre at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she took part in multiple stage productions. Music training featured in her childhood after her father encouraged classical singing lessons, but she ultimately chose a different creative path.

After returning to India, Dua spent time working in advertising.
