Pai English Medium High School in Udupi and went on to study at Government First Grade College, Thenkanidiyuru, and Poorna Prajna College in Udupi. She holds a Master of Arts degree in English Literature.
Manasi trained in classical dance and music from an early age. Her father, Muraleedhara Upadhya, a retired Kannada professor, and family connections in the local arts scene helped bring early performance opportunities. A recommendation from poet Jayant Kaikini led to a performance slot in Mangaluru that opened further doors. She sings in the Carnatic tradition and shares vocal performances on social media platforms.
Career
While pursuing her master’s degree, Manasi made her feature-film debut in the Kannada movie Ramya Chaitrakala (2006). Her entry into acting came unexpectedly during her college years, and she later described the experience as something that happened by chance rather than by long-term planning.
She continued to work in regional cinema, appearing in the Kannada film Shankara Punyakoti (2009) and later in titles such as Ammana Mane (2019) and Katha Sangama (2019). In 2011 she also made a debut in Tulu cinema with Kancheelda Bale, and she has acted in other Tulu-language projects as part of her regional-film career.
Manasi expanded into short-form work as well, featuring in the short film Neralu (2018). In 2022 she appeared in the critically noted thriller Kantara directed by Rishab Shetty, in which she portrayed the protagonist’s mother.
Alongside acting, Manasi is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer. She and her husband co-direct the dance institution Nrithya Nikithana Kodavoor in Kodavoor, Udipi, and they perform together with their ensemble at various events.
