Manni Sandhu Biography
British Punjabi music director, audio engineer and record producer Manni Sandhu rose from remixing tracks as a teenager to producing charting Punjabi songs
Early life and backgroundAmrinder Singh Sandhu, known professionally as Manni Sandhu, was born on 26 September 1989 in London, England, and was raised in the Southall area before his family relocated to Newcastle upon Tyne. He grew up in a household with strong musical interests; his elder brother Jazz Sandhu worked with music and inspired Manni to start experimenting with tracks at a young age.
As a teenager he began learning the basics of production and DJing. By 13 he was remixing Punjabi songs with contemporary styles such as hip hop, R&B, garage and drum & bass. At 14 he performed as a DJ at his first event, and soon started receiving bookings at local clubs. He later took formal training under Wolverhampton-based producer Gurps Sandhar and, after a brief professional hiatus to study music-making with Ustaad Master Rashpal Singh, continued building his career as a producer.
Career
Manni Sandhu’s first released project was a collection of remixes titled The Demo (2005). He moved from remixing into original production, releasing his debut single Pawara in March 2008 when he was 17; the track was well received and was playlisted on the BBC Asian Network and BBC 1XTRA. He followed that early breakthrough by releasing the album My Time on 23 February 2012 through the Brown Boi Music label. Several tracks from that album, including collaborations with Bakshi Billa, Manak-E and Kaka Bhainiawala, placed on the official UK Asian Music Download Chart.
Sandhu continued releasing music and collaborating with Punjabi vocalists. In 2014 he issued a mixtape, Against All Odds, in partnership with singer Prabh Gill. Notable songs he produced include “Friday” featuring Manjit Pappu (2014), “Makhaual” by Akhil (2015) and “Gani” by Akhil (2016). His work has been used outside the Punjabi music scene as well; in 2013 actor Abhishek Bachchan publicly thanked Sandhu for permitting the use of Sandhu’s song “Bottle” at a live awards performance.
His production skills extend to performance and live appearances: in May 2012 he took part in the UK music festival Camden Crawl alongside BBC Radio 1 host Nihal. Manni has also learned to play harmonium, keyboard and tumbi, and he runs a music label, Collab Creations, jointly with his brother Jazz.

Sandhu’s family is involved in business; his parents run a firm in Newcastle upon Tyne. He remains unmarried. On social media and in public appearances he has shared personal interests such as a fondness for dogs.
Controversies
A dispute surfaced when singer Dilraj Grewal accused Sandhu of using a Punjabi song called “Verified Jatt.” The matter prompted public exchange and an uploaded video; Sandhu publicly denied the allegations and explained his position regarding the song’s ownership and prior investment in recording and promotion. The dispute included mention of guide vocals and dates-stamped files and a legal notice related to the recordings.
