Mansi Joshi Biography
Mansi Joshi is an Indian right-arm medium-fast bowler who has represented India at international level and played domestic cricket for Haryana. Born in Teh
Early life and backgroundMansi Joshi was born on 18 August 1993 in Tehri, Uttarakhand, and spent much of her childhood in the hill towns of the state. She grew up watching cricket at her maternal grandmother’s home in Tehri, where games among local boys and her uncles first sparked her interest in the sport. Her family moved for her mother’s job during her school years, and these moves shaped her early training opportunities—relocating to Uttarkashi in Class 3 and later to Rurkee, Punjab, in Class 6.
An acquaintance in Rurkee encouraged her to join St. Xavier Academy, Rurkee, for coaching. At 16 Joshi attended trials for the Haryana Cricket Association and earned a place in the state Under-19 side; she soon progressed to Haryana’s senior team while still in Class 10. Board exam schedules conflicted with her cricket commitments, so she completed Classes 10 and 12 through a private arrangement while pursuing professional training. Coach Virendra Singh Rautela later became an important mentor after spotting her during a practice match in Dehradun; she moved there to train under him at St. Joseph’s Cricket Academy.
Career
A right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batter, Mansi established herself in domestic cricket representing Haryana from 2009/10 onwards. She has also played for North Zone and India Blue, and later featured for the Supernovas in 2022 and the Gujarat Giants from 2023. Her preferred jersey number for India is 10.
Joshi made her international debut in T20s on 26 November 2016 against Bangladesh during the Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup in Bangkok. Her One Day International debut came on 10 February 2017 against Ireland at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Colombo. Early in her international career she produced notable performances in qualifiers and bilateral matches—returning figures such as 1/8 on her T20I debut and following up with 2/8 in a subsequent fixture against Thailand, where she earned player of the match honours in a game that did not carry T20I status.
At the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, Joshi took a key wicket when she clean bowled a Thailand batter and earned player of the match, helping India win the tournament. Her performances helped secure her place in India’s squad for the 2017 Women’s World Cup, where India finished as runners-up. Highlights from that World Cup included two wickets against Pakistan.
After the 2017 World Cup she suffered a knee injury that sidelined her for more than a year. She returned to international and domestic action thereafter and continued to contribute in key moments: in the 3rd ODI of the South Africa women’s tour of India in 2019–20 she took an athletic catch to dismiss Nondumiso Shangase. In 2022 she was part of the IPL Supernovas side that won the Women’s T20 Challenge. In the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League in 2023 she was bought by the Gujarat Giants.
Public profile
Joshi grew up admiring Sachin Tendulkar, and wearing India’s No. 10 jersey has personal resonance because of that connection. She has cited fast bowlers Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar among her bowling inspirations, and Mithali Raj as a female cricketing role model. Off the field, she is known to enjoy mutton biryani, and her listed nicknames include Himani, MJ, and Moniker references tied to cricketing media.
Her physical profile in public records lists her height at approximately 163 cm (5'4"), with black hair and black eyes. She is noted as non-vegetarian, and tattoos reported in public profiles include an inverted cross and chain on her left arm and the inscription "Hareram Harekrishna" on her right arm.
Latest updates
In domestic franchise cricket, Joshi featured for Supernovas when they won the Women’s T20 Challenge in 2022 and was acquired by Gujarat Giants ahead of the 2023 Women’s Premier League season. Her coach Virendra Singh Rautela has been a long-standing influence; after her World Cup selection she gifted him a car in appreciation for his support, and Rautela had earlier helped her with transportation to training during her developmental years.
She has received recognition beyond cricketing selection: in May 2017 Hindustan Times included her in a Top 30 under 30 list, reflecting her rising profile following national team breakthroughs.
