Early life and backgroundMasaba Gupta was born on 1 November 1989 in Delhi, India, and grew up primarily in Mumbai. She comes from a family with strong ties to the arts and sports: her mother is actress Neena Gupta and her father is former cricketer Viv Richards. Masaba’s grandfather, R. N. Gupta, was a Sanskrit scholar.
She completed formal studies in apparel manufacture and design and attended Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University in Mumbai. She also spent time studying music and dance in London, though she later left that program.
As a child she was active in sports and hoped to pursue tennis; she practised seriously but lost enthusiasm for the sport around age 16. She has said she enjoys listening to music and dancing in her spare time.
