Early life and backgroundR. Mayilsamy was born on 2 October 1965 in Sathiyamangalam in the then composite Coimbatore district of Madras State (now part of Erode district, Tamil Nadu). Career
Mayilsamy’s on-screen work began in the mid-1980s. His first film appearance was a small role in Dhavani Kanavugal (1984). Over the next four decades he became a familiar face in Tamil cinema, appearing in more than 200 films. He is best known for comic and supporting roles in popular Tamil movies including Gnanapazham (1996), Dhill (2001), Vaseegara (2003), Kangalal Kaidhu Sei (for which he received the Tamil Nadu State Government Award for Best Comedian in 2004), Kanchana (2011), Sathiram Perunthu Nilaiyam (2013), and Idiot (2022).
A turning point in Mayilsamy’s mainstream recognition came with his role as Kunchacko in Dhool (2003). Besides acting on screen, he also contributed as a voice artist, dubbing for other performers in films such as Selva (1996), Ullam Kollai Poguthae (2001), New (2004), and providing the voice for Vadivelu in Kasthuri Manjal (1992). His last credited acting role was in the film Udanpaal (2022), and he worked as a dubbing artist on Glassmate.
