Early life and backgroundMeera was born Irtiza Rubab on 12 May 1977 in Sheikhupura, Punjab, Pakistan. Raised in a family that includes her parents Syed Mohammad Sarwar Shah and Shafqat Rubab and siblings Shaista Abbasi, Syed Ahsan Abbas, Syeda Hussain, Rubab Aqsa and Murtaza Ahsan, she completed her education at Kinnaird College for Women in Lahore. She began performing in school and college theatre productions, and moved into modelling and television commercials while still in her teens.
Career
Meera launched her film career in Lollywood with the 1995 release Kanta. Over the following years she established herself as a leading actress in Pakistani cinema, appearing in titles such as Khilona (1996), Inteha (1999) and Hotal (2014). Her work has been recognised with multiple Nigar Awards, including honours for Khilona and for Best Actress of the Year for Inteha. In 2012 she was awarded the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
In 2005 Meera made a crossover into Bollywood with the film Nazar, in which she played the role of Divya Verma. She went on to appear in other Indian productions including Kasak (2005), Paanch Ghantey Mein Paanch Crore (2012) and Bhadaas (2013), and performed an item number in Bumper Draw (2015).
Television became another platform for Meera from 2010 onward. She made her TV debut in Husan Ara Kaun and later took on notable roles such as Naseem Dilruba in Mein Sitara (2016) and Madam Kaali in Naagin (2017).
