Early life and background

Mehr Jesia was born on 30 November 1970 in Kolkata, West Bengal, and grew up in Mumbai’s Dadar Parsi Colony. She comes from a Gujarati-Parsi family; her father Homi Jesia worked for Air India and later passed away in 2015, and her mother Vera Jesia also served as an airhostess. Mehr attended The J.B. Vachha High School in Mumbai and later enrolled at Sophia College for Women, but she did not complete her college education.

From a young age she showed athletic talent, competing in badminton and snooker at the national level and swimming at the state level. These pursuits complemented her early interest in modelling, which she began pursuing in the 1980s.

Mehr’s modelling career took off in the 1980s and reached a high point in 1986 when she won the Femina Miss India Universe title. That same year she represented India at the Miss Universe pageant held in Panama City. Her visibility in the national fashion scene led to her being regarded as one of India’s first supermodels.

Mehr was offered an acting opportunity in 1998 for the film Zooni but chose not to pursue it, citing limited Hindi language skills. She later served as a producer on the film I See You (2006).
