Early life and background

Misha Ghoshal was born Noopur Ghoshal on 26 November 1989 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Her family moved to Chennai when she was a child, and she grew up in that city. Misha is of Bengali ethnicity and is the only child of her parents; her mother is named Shubra Bhattacharjee. She follows a non-vegetarian diet and has a tattoo on her left forearm that reads Mumma’s Angel.

Career

Misha began her professional life as a model and worked on print campaigns for apparel brands, as well as runway shows. Her modelling work includes collaborations with fashion designers and an appearance as a showstopper at the Chennai International Fashion Week in 2015. From modelling she moved into acting, first appearing in supporting parts across South Indian cinema.

Her film debut in Tamil came with Pokkisham (2009), where she had a supporting role. She later appeared in the Telugu film 180 (2011) and the Malayalam film Lens (2016). Several Tamil projects helped raise her profile: she featured in 7aum Arivu (2011) in the role of Nisha, and went on to appear in films such as Raja Rani (2013), Vadacurry (2014), Mooch (2015) and Visaranai (2016). In Visaranai she played the character Sindhu in what she described as a challenging, hard-hitting drama directed by Vetrimaaran.

Apart from feature films, Misha took lead roles in short films, including the Tamil short Akku (2013) directed by Immanuel Prakash. She has also worked in theatre, performing in a number of Tamil stage productions.

Television and reality shows have formed another strand of her career. She has acted in the Tamil TV show Yamini BABL, playing a senior advocate. On the reality circuit she participated in the Celebrity Badminton League in 2016 as a member of the Chennai Eagles and took part in Dance Jodi Dance in 2017, emerging as one of the winners of that dance competition.
