Early life and backgroundMuyiwa Ademola was born on January 26, 1971, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. He grew up in Ibadan and attended Christ Church School, Mapo V Elekuro, and St. David’s High School in Molete. He later went on to study at the University of Ibadan. His schooling included a West African Senior School Certificate and later a Bachelor of Education in Adult Education; he also earned a certificate in chemistry from an institute affiliated with a London institution.
In childhood and adolescence he gravitated toward performance. His first experiences on stage came as a substitute in school plays, and he developed interests in writing and publicity while at school — editing a corner of the school bulletin with short pieces and serving as Director of Publicity for the school press club. While at college he wrote scripts and published a novel titled Secrets of Death, encouraged by a teacher.
Career
Muyiwa Ademola entered the Nigerian film industry in the early 1990s with guidance from established performers. After initial mentorship he made his acting debut in a Yoruba film in 1991 and went on to write and produce his first feature, Asise, in 1995. He became known for prominent roles and for directing and producing films in Yoruba-language cinema.
His breakthrough came with the 2004 film Ori, which he both directed and appeared in; the film later received recognition at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. He has been associated with other notable Yoruba titles including Indomie Lomo (2004), Igi owo (2007), Ogo Pupa (2008), Fimidara Ire (2017), Oko Gbarada (2019), and the 2019 film Bipolar, in which he portrayed a psychiatrist. By 2021 he had directed, produced, and featured in around 100 Yoruba films.
Ademola runs Muy Authentic Presentations, his own production company, and in 2004 he founded the Authentic School of Drama to train aspiring actors. He also created a YouTube channel, MUY Authentic TV, in 2015 to publish entertainment content, and has served as a brand ambassador for Schemelink Residence Limited.
