Nandana Varma was born on 14 July 2002 in Kochi, Kerala. Raised in a middle-class family, she is the daughter of Santosh Varma and Anitha Varma and has a younger brother named Niranjan Varma. She attended Sree Narayana Public School in Kerala and, as of 2020, was pursuing a college degree. Brought up in Kochi, she speaks Malayalam and has working knowledge of Tamil, Hindi and English.

From an early age Nandana showed an interest in performance. She trained in classical dance and regularly participated in school competitions, winning several awards for her dancing. Those early activities helped pave the way for a career in film.

Nandana entered the film industry as a child artist. Her screen debut came in the 2012 Malayalam film Spirit. After that she continued to appear in Malayalam productions, including notable titles such as 1983, Mili, Sunday Holiday, Guppy, Aakashamittayee, Mazhayathu and Anjaam Pathiraa.
