Nandini Rai (Actress) Biography

Nandini Rai, born Neelam Gouhrani, is an Indian actress and model from Secunderabad who has worked across Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi films

Early life and background

Neelam Gouhrani, known professionally as Nandini Rai, was born on 18 September 1988 in Secunderabad, Telangana. Raised in a Telugu-Sindhi family, she attended St. Albans High School and Army Public School in Hyderabad before completing a B.Com and an MBA in Finance, with further study at the University of London. Her parents are Manoj Kumar, a writer, and Rekha Gouhrani; she has a brother, Jeetu Gouhrani.

From an early age Nandini showed an interest in performance. While still in school she was chosen by the late actress Soundarya to appear as her on-screen daughter in an advertisement, an early experience that preceded her later modelling and acting work.

Career

Nandini built a career first in modelling, winning the Miss Andhra Pradesh title in 2008 and going on to appear in a large number of advertising campaigns. Her modelling work spans more than a hundred national and international brands and provided a bridge into film roles.

Her screen debut came as a child artist in the Bollywood film Family Pack (2000). As an adult she has taken lead and supporting roles across several Indian film industries. Notable early credits include the Hindi film Login (2012) in which she played a lead role, and regional films such as the Malayalam Goodbye December (2013), the Telugu Maaya (2014) and Kannada Khushi Khushiyagi (2014). She later appeared in the Tamil film Graghanam (2018).

On television, Nandini reached a wider audience when she entered Bigg Boss Telugu 2 in June 2018 as a wildcard contestant. That appearance raised her public profile and introduced her to viewers beyond the film-going audience.

Public profile

Nandini’s public image combines her modelling background with her work in regional cinema and reality television. She is known for a disciplined fitness and lifestyle routine — listed physical stats include a height of 160 cm (5'3") and an approximate weight of 55 kg — and for a range of hobbies including travelling, cooking, dancing, swimming, gymming, ice skating, painting and nail art.

She follows Hinduism and is open about personal interests such as animals — she is a dog lover with several pet dogs — and devotional practice, being an ardent devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba. Nandini has a pair of small tattoos: a genie’s face on her right wrist and dog footprints on her left.

Across interviews and public commentary she has cited a variety of favourite films, performers and creators from Indian and international cinema, and lists driving an Audi among her possessions.

Latest updates

Nandini continues to be identified with work across multiple South Indian film industries and occasional Hindi projects, as well as with modelling and brand work. Her notable past film credits and the visibility from Bigg Boss Telugu 2 remain key elements of her public career.
