Navin Prabhakar Biography

Navin Prabhakar is an Indian comedian, mimicry artist, singer, actor and stage performer from Mumbai. He rose to national recognition after appearing on a

Early life and background

Navin Prabhakar was born on 17 May in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Mumbai. Growing up in Mumbai, he began practicing mimicry as a student — reportedly performing impressions of Marathi actor Nilu Phule while in class 10 and later imitating Bollywood stars during college competitions.

Career

Prabhakar’s professional work spans stand-up comedy, mimicry, acting, singing, voiceover and television hosting. He took part in the 2005 season of a nationwide comedy competition, where a catchphrase he used — “Pehchaan Kaun” — became widely recognised and helped raise his public profile.

On screen, his film debut as an actor came in the Marathi movie No Problem (2005) in which he played the role of Jai. He has acted in several Hindi films including Vroom (2010), Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (2012), Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (2013), 7 Hours to Go (2016) and Official Bhootiyagiri 3 (2020). He also worked in the Tamil film Darbar (2020) alongside Rajinikanth.

As a playback singer he is credited with the song "Signal Pe" from the film Traffic Signal (2007). His voice work extends to dubbing and voiceover assignments; he is listed as a dubbing artist on the 2020 film Tanhaji and has provided voice work for films such as Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse, Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Nehle Pe Dehla and Aata Tari Thamba.

On stage and television he has performed in a large number of live events — more than 3,000 by some accounts — and has hosted film award ceremonies, including the 12th and 13th Screen Awards. His television appearances include episodic roles, such as a poet in the sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! and an appearance on Crime Patrol. He has performed in multiple languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil and Haryanvi.

Prabhakar has worked closely with established Indian comedian Johnny Lever early in his career, spending several years in Lever’s comedy group before establishing himself as an independent performer. He has cited comedians such as Eddie Murphy and Raju Srivastava among those who inspire him, and he has been recognised domestically with honours such as an Excellence Award presented by Sos Nitelife Events in 2022.

Public profile

Navin Prabhakar is known for his mimicry-based stage persona and lively stand-up sets. He is reported to have performed internationally, including a notable performance at the Eiffel Tower. His stage work and television visibility have made him a familiar face in contemporary Indian comedy circuits.

Outside of performance he pursues rangoli art, including making rangoli on water, and is an animal lover who keeps a pet dog. He has a personal car listed as a Mahindra XUV700.

Personal life

Prabhakar is married to Seema Prabhakar; the couple married in 2000 and have two children. He identifies as Hindu and holds Indian nationality. His hometown is Mumbai and his physical attributes include a height of approximately 5 feet 6 inches with black hair and black eyes. His astrological sign is Taurus.

Latest updates

In 2022 he received an Excellence Award at an event organised by Sos Nitelife Events. He continued to work across film, television and live performance into 2020, including acting and voice work in mainstream films and hosting award shows.
