Neetu Singh was born Harneet Kaur on 8 July 1958 in Delhi. Raised in a Sikh family, she attended Hill Grange High School in Mumbai. Known in childhood as Baby Sonia, she trained in dance at Vyjayanthimala’s dance school and was discovered by Vyjayanthimala, who cast her as a child artist early in her career.

Career

Neetu entered films as a child actor, appearing in titles such as Suraj (1966), Dus Lakh (1966), Do Kaliyaan (1968), Waris (1969) and Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani (1970). She transitioned to lead roles with Rickshawala (1972) and became a popular on-screen partner of Rishi Kapoor; the two were paired in a dozen films together, including Zehreela Insaan (1974), Khel Khel Mein (1975), Rafoo Chakkar (1975), Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and Dhan Daulat (1980).

After marrying Rishi Kapoor in January 1980, she stepped away from acting for many years. Neetu returned to the screen in 2009, marking her comeback with Love Aaj Kal.
