Nidhi Kumari Prasad was born on 30 November 1997 in Chakradharpur, Jharkhand. Raised in a family where education and music were both encouraged, she began formal vocal training at the age of six. Her early instruction came from teachers Molly Bhattacharyaji and Chandrakant Apte, and later from Sanatan Deep.

To support her musical education she and her family relocated to Adityapur. Nidhi attended Railway English School and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Chakradharpur for her schooling and went on to study at Jamshedpur Women’s College, where she completed graduate and postgraduate work in music, ultimately earning an M.A. in Music.

Nidhi’s first exposure on national television arrived in 2011 when she took part in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs (Bengali) on Zee Bangla, where she finished among the Top‑11 contestants. She continued to audition for larger platforms and in 2016 reached the final audition stage for Indian Idol 9 after being selected from Kolkata, though she did not clear the final round in Mumbai.

Following continued practice and performance, Nidhi auditioned again for Indian Idol 11 in 2019, this time starting from Jamshedpur. She performed ‘‘Agar mujhse mohabbat hai’’, advanced through city and regional rounds in Jamshedpur and Kolkata, and after eight rounds secured a place among the Top‑15 contestants on the show. During Indian Idol 11 she was noted by judges and peers with the sobriquet ‘Sharmili’.
