Nidhi Yasha Biography
Nidhi Yasha is an Indian costume and fashion designer known for her extensive work on television mythological series, films and web series. A NIFT gold-med
Early life and backgroundNidhi Yasha was born on 26 April 1983 in Patna and grew up in an environment that led her to pursue formal training in fashion. She attended St. Joseph Convent High School in Patna and went on to study at Patna Women's College before enrolling at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. At NIFT she distinguished herself academically, graduating with high honors in fashion technology.
She has a background in additional management education, having completed a short course in crafting luxury in lifestyle businesses at IIM Ahmedabad. Her hometown is listed as Mumbai, reflecting the city where she built her professional base.
Career
Nidhi Yasha began her career working with fashion buying and exporting houses in Delhi, including placements with The TMS Group in Beijing, Impulse and House of Pearl Fashions. At The TMS Group she handled networks of export houses across multiple offices, an early international placement that gave her exposure to large-scale sourcing and production.
In 2010 she founded the eponymous luxury label Nidhi Yasha and established NY studio in Mumbai with the intent to meld traditional Indian elements with contemporary urban sensibilities. From that base she built a prolific career as a costume designer for television, film and digital platforms.
Yasha is particularly known for her work on Indian mythological television series. Her television credits include costume work on productions such as Mahabharat, Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, Shobha Somnath Ki, Chandragupta Maurya, Durga, Savitri, Jodha Akbar, Ramleela – Ajay Devgn Ke Saath, Navya, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Anhoniyon Ka Andhera, Tenalirama and Alladin. She has explained that designing for mythology requires close engagement with scriptures, temple art and historical texts to develop looks described primarily in written sources.
Her film work includes costume design for commercial and award-winning projects such as Jal, Haunted, 1920: Evil Returns, Dangerous Ishq, Maximum, Zilla Ghaziabad and Policegiri. She has also worked on international film projects, including the Chinese historical fantasy Xuan Zang (Zhaoge).
In the digital and streaming space she designed costumes for the web series State of Siege – 26/11 on Zee5 and 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897 on Netflix, among other projects.
Beyond production work, Yasha has presented collections on the global stage; in 2015 she showed designs at London Fashion Week Catwalk Edit. Her label was nominated as a national brand at the Luxury Lifestyle Awards in Singapore in 2016. She is among the founding members of the Fashion Design Council of India and has served as an external juror and guest lecturer at institutions including NIFT, Symbiosis (Pune) and Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai.
