Omair Tahir Rana was born on 31 January 1978 in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. He completed his secondary education in Al Ain and later moved to Pakistan for higher studies. His formal studies include time at University College Lahore and the London School of Economics and Political Science, and he holds a diploma in economics and management. He attended Al Ain English Speaking School during his early schooling years.

Career

Rana began his career in theatre, first performing and then moving into directing. In 2000 he founded his own company, Real Entertainment Productions (REP), which has staged more than fifty plays across Pakistan. His theatre work has included productions mounted at educational institutions, and he has served as a visiting lecturer in drama and theatre at colleges including Kinnaird College and Beaconhouse National University.

He made an early screen appearance in a short film adaptation of Saadat Hasan Manto’s "Toba Tek Singh" in 2005. Rana’s feature film debut followed in 2013 with a role in the political thriller Chambaili.
