Early life and backgroundPallavi Joshi was born on 4 April 1969 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in the city she still counts as her hometown, Joshi grew up in a family with strong ties to the performing arts. Her mother, Sushma Joshi, was a singer, and her father is Madhusudan Joshi. Her younger brother Alankar Joshi has also worked as an actor.
She pursued higher education and completed a graduation in Digital Media. From an early age she performed on stage and moved into screen work while still a child.
Career
Joshi’s screen debut came as a child actor. Her first television appearance was in 1977 in a production titled Daku or Mahatma, and she made her film debut shortly afterward in Dada (1979), in which she portrayed a blind child who influences the life of a gangster. Over the ensuing decades she has worked steadily across film and television in Hindi and Marathi-language projects.
In addition to acting, Pallavi Joshi has worked as a model and as a producer. She has also taken roles that extend her presence beyond scripted drama; for example, she has hosted the televised singing competition Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi L’il Champs on Zee Marathi.
Her work has been recognised at the national level. At the 67th National Film Awards she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Tashkent Files (2019).
