Pankaja Munde built her political career within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Parli constituency and served as an MLA between 2009 and 2019. During the Devendra Fadnavis-led government, she held a cabinet portfolio from 31 October 2014 to 24 October 2019, working in departments that included Rural Development and Women and Child Development.
In 2012 she served as president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Maharashtra.
