Early life and backgroundPrakash Belawadi was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, in 1970 and grew up in a family steeped in theatre. His parents, Belavadi Nanjundaiah Narayan and Bhargavi Narayan, were both theatre artists who also worked in Kannada cinema. He completed his elementary schooling at Mahila Seva Samaja and finished higher secondary education at National High School, Bangalore. He did his pre‑university at National College and went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering from University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in 1983.
Career
Belawadi’s career spans acting, directing, writing, teaching and civic work. He made his film acting debut as Shambhu in the Kannada film Bangaravayithu in 1976 and later expanded into other Indian film industries. He has worked in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films, and has appeared in notable Hindi films. In 2003 he wrote and directed the English‑language film Stumble; that film won the National Award for Best Film in the English language.
On screen, his credits include roles in Madras Cafe (2013), Airlift (2016), Sanju (2018) and The Tashkent Files (2019). He appeared in The Kashmir Files (2022) as Dr. Mahesh Kumar. Across regional industries, his debut credits include a Tamil film role in Uttama Villain (2014), a Malayalam appearance in Solo (2017) and a Telugu role in Saaho (2019). He has also worked in web series, making his OTT debut in Smoke (2018) and later appearing in High (2020), Mumbai Diaries 26/11 (2021) and Politician Nograj (2022).
