Early life and background

Pratik Gandhi was born on 29 April 1989 in Surat, Gujarat. Raised in a family with parents who worked as teachers, he attended Bhulka Bhavan School in Surat before moving to Maharashtra for higher studies. He completed a B.E. in Production Engineering from Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University and initially pursued a career in industry, working with Reliance Industries and later with the National Productivity Council in Satara, Pune.

Career

Gandhi’s interest in acting began early; he auditioned for the first time while in sixth grade. Though he originally considered becoming a doctor, he followed engineering after school. Even as he worked as an engineer during the daytime, he remained committed to theatre and spent evenings performing on stage.

He launched his acting journey in Gujarati theatre, making his stage debut in 2005 in the play Aa Paar Ke Pele Paar as Ravikant Deewan. Over the years he appeared in many Gujarati productions, including Apurva Avsar (2007), Hu Chandrakant Baksh (2013), Master Madam (2014), Mohan No Masala (2016) and Sir Sir Sarla (2018). His performance in Mohan No Masala earned a Limca Book of Records entry for performing a monologue in three languages—English, Hindi and Gujarati—in a single day.

Gandhi’s film work spans Gujarati, English and Hindi cinema. Early screen appearances include the English film Yours Emotionally (2006) and the Gujarati film Bey Yaar. He went on to act in several notable Gujarati features such as Wrong Side Raju (2016), Tamburo (2017), Love Ni Bhavai (2017) and Dhunki (2019). In Hindi cinema he appeared in films including Mitron and Loveyatri (2018).

His breakthrough on the national stage came with the SonyLIV web series Scam 1992 (2020), a biographical project about the stockbroker Harshad Mehta. Gandhi portrayed Harshad Mehta and gained widespread attention for the role; he later reported gaining nearly 18 kilograms for the part. Following that success, he was cast in the lead for the Hindi film Ravan Leela (2020).

In addition to films and theatre, Gandhi has appeared in television commercials for brands such as Uttam Besan, Oppo and HSBC. Across stage and screen he has received multiple awards for his work in Gujarati cinema.

Public profile

Pratik Gandhi is known for his brown eyes, black hair and an approximate height of 175 cm (about 5 feet 9 inches). He follows a vegetarian diet and counts the film Sholay (1975) among his favorites. Off screen, he has an interest in automobiles; a Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 4MATIC has been noted among cars associated with him.

Personal life

Gandhi is married to actress Bhamini Oza; the couple wed in 2009 and have a daughter named Miraya. His family includes a brother, Punit Gandhi, and a sister, Meghna Chitalia.

Latest updates

After Scam 1992, Gandhi continued to take on prominent roles in Hindi projects, including being attached as the lead for Ravan Leela in 2020.
