Early life and background

Preeti Bose was born on 20 April 1992 in Sandal Kalan Village near Sonipat in Haryana. She grew up in a middle-class family; her father, Rakam Singh, worked as a farmer. Preeti attended a government school in Kharkhoda and later studied at Kharkhoda Government College. Academically she completed a graduate-level course in yoga education. She has an elder sister and an elder brother, and her brother served as her first coach in cricket.

As a child she regularly played street cricket with local boys and first encountered leather-ball cricket while in class 11. A school sports teacher encouraged her to join the school team, and although her parents initially hoped she would pursue a medical career, they supported her cricket after the teacher’s recommendation.

Preeti is a left-arm orthodox bowler and a right-handed batter who has appeared for multiple domestic teams, including Haryana Women, Railways Women, India Blue, and franchise side Royal Challengers Bangalore. She represented Haryana at under-19 level and helped the state win the Rani Jhansi Trophy in 2008. At zonal and domestic levels she produced notable performances, including a five-wicket haul that helped India Blue defeat India Red in the senior women’s Challenger Trophy in 2015.

Her performances at the domestic level led to international opportunities. Preeti made her One Day International debut for India on 19 February 2016 against Sri Lanka in Ranchi, where she took two wickets. She played her first T20 International on 18 November 2016 against the West Indies in Vijayawada. She was part of India’s squad when the team won the Women’s Asia Cup T20 title in 2016; her bowling contributed to India’s success in the tournament.

At the zonal level she had repeated success bowling to established players; Harmanpreet Kaur noticed her bowling and selected Preeti for an Indian A series against Sri Lanka in 2014, in which she claimed three wickets. After some early matches for India she returned to domestic cricket and continued to represent state and institutional sides, including Railways.

In the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction in February 2023, she was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Her India jersey carries the number 15.
