Early life and backgroundPrisha Lokesh Nikajoo was born on 9 November 2017 in Palava Phase 2, Dombivli, Maharashtra. She grew up in Dombivli and is of Indian nationality. Her family includes her father, Lokesh Nikajoo, an IT engineer, and her mother, Seema Nikajoo, a consultant. Prisha has two sisters, including a sister named Naysa. Her grandparents are TR Nikajoo, a retired government teacher, and Pramila Nikaju; they have roots in Prabhat Pattan in Betul district, Madhya Pradesh.
From an early age Prisha was introduced to outdoor activity and fitness. She began trekking at two years old, inspired by her father’s interest in the activity. By the age of three she had climbed Kalsubai, the highest peak in the state, and went on to visit places such as Sinhagad, Lohagad, Visapur, Karnala, Sondai, Kothaligad, Prabalmachi, Kalavantin, and Raigad. On 31 October 2021 she completed a climb of Kalsubai in 3 hours and 16 minutes at the age of three years, 11 months and 22 days, a feat her family noted as possibly making her one of the youngest to summit that peak.
Her most widely reported achievement came in 2023. On 20 June 2023 Prisha reached the Everest Base Camp, at 17,598 feet (5,364 metres). The trek took 12 days from Lukla, Nepal, where she and her father began the route on 24 May and arrived at base camp on 1 June before returning to Lukla on 4 June. During the ascent she carried the Indian flag at the base camp. Her father later described the journey as a challenging high-altitude trek where many trekkers experience breathing difficulties, headaches and acute mountain sickness; he said Prisha managed those difficulties well.
Preparation for the Everest journey included daily walks of five to six miles, aerobic exercises, stair climbing around their apartment, and informal climbing practice in their garden. Beyond trekking, Prisha trains in karate, plays table tennis and swims, keeping a routine of practice and training in these sports.
