As a child he faced financial constraints; his family could not afford a television and he would watch matches from a nearby paan shop. His father, Naresh Garg, took on a variety of odd jobs to support the family and Priyam’s cricket training. His mother, Kusum Devi, passed away in 2011 when Priyam was eleven.
Garg attended no formal school or college according to the available information. He comes from a large family: his father Naresh, an elder brother Shivam who is a pharmacist, at least one other brother, and three sisters named Pooja, Jyoti and Reshu. His early exposure to the sport and regular coaching shaped his development; he initially bowled fast but coaches encouraged him to concentrate on batting, where he showed particular aptitude.
