Early life and background

Rahul Mittra was born on 13 October 1970 in Chandigarh and grew up with ties to both Chandigarh and Mumbai. He completed his schooling at St. John’s High School in Chandigarh and later attended Modern School on Barakhamba Road in New Delhi. He went on to study at Hindu College, University of Delhi, where he earned a BA (Honours) in Political Science, and subsequently completed an MA in International Affairs at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Mittra comes from a family with public-service connections. His father, M.P. Mittra, served as an IAS officer and died in a plane crash. His mother is Sushiksha Mittra. He has brothers Vipul Mittra, an IAS officer, and Atul Mittra, a chartered accountant. Rahul is married to Sarina Mittra and is a father to two children, a son named Reshul and a daughter named Sara.

Career

Mittra’s professional life spans journalism, corporate communications and the film industry. Early in his career he worked at The Times of India as a sub-editor and foreign-desk reporter, writing on international affairs, business, politics and social issues. He later held roles in corporate communications and marketing, including senior manager positions at Core Healthcare Ltd and Bennett Coleman and Co. Ltd. (Times Group), and served as head of corporate communication at Travelite India where he helped develop the company’s online marketing and inbound travel presence.

In 2003 Mittra launched Brandsmith Motion Pictures to offer services such as brand management, corporate communications, event management, advertising within films and media relations. In 2016 he established a second company, Rahul Mittra Films, based in Mumbai, to focus on film production.

In the film industry Mittra has taken on multiple roles as producer, presenter and actor. He is best known as the producer of the Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster franchise. His producing credits include Bullet Raja (2013), Revolver Rani (2014), Sarkar 3 (2017), Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 (2018) and Torbaaz (2020). He has also presented films such as Main aur Charles (2015), Zubaan (2015), Saat Uchakkey (2016) and The Legend of Michael Mishra (2016).

As an actor, Mittra has appeared on screen in Revolver Rani (2014), Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 (2018), Torbaaz (2020) and Holy Cow (2022).
