Across decades he became known for a steady stream of television performances. A breakthrough came with his role in the drama Namoos, which brought him wider recognition. Naz made his Bollywood debut in the 2015 film Baby, portraying Maulana Mohammad Abdul Rahman and sharing the screen with established Indian actors; his son also had an appearance in that film. He continued to act in regional cinema, including Pashto films such as Arman (2012) and Gul E Jana (2017).
One of his later film credits was 72 Hoorain, a multilingual production that was screened at the International Film Festival of India in 2019 and awarded the ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal. The film was released theatrically in 2023 in several Indian languages after his death.
