RJ Chaitu Biography
Chaitanya Basava, known professionally as RJ Chaitu or Chatterbox Chaitu, is an Indian radio jockey, TV presenter, YouTuber and content creator from Vijayw
Early life and backgroundChaitanya Basava was born on 2 August 1989 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Raised in a family that includes his parents Malleswara Rao Basava and Basava Seshukumari and a younger brother, Basava Charan, he spent his childhood in Vijayawada and completed his schooling at TCMA English Medium High School. He later attended Andhra Loyola College for intermediate studies and pursued graduation at Osmania University in Hyderabad. He also completed an animation course at Arena Institute, Dilsukhnagar.
Chaitu showed a talkative, outgoing nature from a young age and took part in many school activities. After the death of his father he faced financial pressures and worked from an early age, including delivering couriers at around twelve. He moved to Hyderabad in 2008 to continue his studies, train in animation and find work, balancing college, training and night shifts at a call centre during that period.
Career
Chaitu’s interest in entertainment was sparked by live performances he watched while in college and by listening to established radio personalities. He tried repeatedly to break into radio and endured a number of rejections—six auditions ended unsuccessfully—before landing a role at Red FM Hyderabad in 2009, after an acquaintance encouraged him to try for an outdoor broadcast audition. He began his career at Red FM on 11 September 2009 and built his reputation through on-air energy and relatable interactions with listeners.
His radio work includes hosting the popular shows Zabardasth Masti and Midnight Biryani on Red FM Hyderabad, along with participation in the outdoor broadcast format Red on Road. Midnight Biryani in particular helped him develop a loyal listener base after an emotional on-air moment led to a large response from listeners. Zabardasth Masti, a show that discussed lifestyle topics such as fashion, cooking and budgeting, won multiple Excellence in Radio Awards in the non-breakfast Telugu category.
Beyond radio, Chaitu expanded into television hosting from 2010. He anchored programmes for Telugu music channels, including College Style and Chai Biscuit on Maa Music and Must Time Pass on ETV Plus. He has also emceed events and ceremonies, provided voiceovers and sung a few jingles for his radio station. In 2015 he hosted IPL coverage from Hyderabad.
In digital media, Chaitu launched a YouTube presence in 2021. He created a channel called Chatterbox Chaitu that featured a show, Challenges with Chatterbox Chaitu, structured as short, fast-paced segments combining games and celebrity interviews; the premiere episode attracted strong viewership. Later in 2021 he started a self-titled YouTube channel where he posts interviews with Telugu film personalities, game-based segments, vlogs and food challenges. He also appeared as a contestant on the Telugu digital reality series Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu in 2022 as part of Team Challengers.
Public profile
Chaitu is known for his conversational style, approachable on-air persona and ability to connect emotionally with listeners. He is nicknamed Chatterbox Chaitu and is identifiable by tattoos that include a microphone on his forearm and a Leo symbol on his left hand. Physically, he is approximately 173 cm tall and has black eyes and black hair. He follows a non-vegetarian diet and lists appam among his favourite foods. He is a fan of composer-singer Devi Sri Prasad and counts DSP as one of his inspirations; the two share the same birthday.
Chaitu has received recognition within his field, including awards for radio excellence. He won the Indywood Excellence Award for Best RJ (Male) in 2017 and earned the Excellence in Radio Award for Most Popular RJ in 2018 and 2019. He was also presented with the Pride of Telangana Award in 2019.
Personal life and interests
Chaitu remains unmarried. He has spoken about early hardships, including being body-shamed during his childhood, and he credits his family—particularly his mother and brother—for steady support as he built a career in media. He volunteers with DESIRE Society, an NGO working for children affected by HIV/AIDS, and is an avid dog lover who shares moments with his pet on social media. He is known to be particular about cleanliness, especially when it comes to cars.
Latest updates
