Early life and background
Rohit Tokas was born on 1 August 1993 in Munirka Village, New Delhi. He grew up in the same neighbourhood and began sports at an early age. As a child he trained in swimming and became a sub-junior national medalist in that sport before focusing on boxing. Tokas has said that his interest in boxing developed after watching films about the sport and professional wrestling, and an experience of being bullied at school also inspired him to take up boxing seriously.

Career
Tokas made his international debut at the Cuban Youth Olympics in Havana in 2011, competing in the 60 kg lightweight division. Early in his boxing career he competed across youth and senior domestic events, including multiple national championships and zone-level tournaments. He won the Youth Men National Boxing Championship in 2010 and collected medals at a string of events through the next decade, including senior state and national competitions.

During his progression he moved up weight categories, competing in 60 kg, 64 kg and later the welterweight division (63.5–67 kg). In 2015 he earned a bronze at the King’s Cup in Thailand while competing in the 60 kg class and later switched to the 64 kg category for subsequent events.

Tokas has represented India at a number of international tournaments, including the China Open in Guiyang in 2013 and the Asian Amateur Boxing Championship in Thailand in 2019. He was part of India’s contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, where he won a bronze medal in the men’s 67 kg welterweight division. At those Games he won his quarterfinal bout before losing a closely contested split decision in the semifinals.

Injuries have affected parts of his career. In 2018 Tokas suffered a ligament injury that kept him out of major events, and he experienced further knee ligament problems through 2019 that ruled him out of the World Championship and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification pathway. He has spoken publicly about the severity of those injuries and the impact they had on his competitive plans.

At the national level he has continued to compete; in 2018 and 2019 he earned medals at Elite Men’s National events and other domestic tournaments. In 2022 he took part in the All India Inter Railways Championship and recorded a unanimous decision victory over an opponent representing Central Railway.

Training and style
Tokas boxes from an orthodox stance and has worked with several coaches over the years, including Rajesh Tokas, Lalit Prasad and Pritam Tokas. Listed at about 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) and roughly 65 kg during competition periods, he consistently fought in the welterweight bracket in recent years.

Personal life
Rohit Tokas is married to Swati Tokas. His parents are Preet Singh Tokas, who has served as a police officer, and Anita Tokas. He attended Delhi College of Arts & Commerce at the University of Delhi. Outside the ring he enjoys travelling and trekking.

Public profile
Alongside his sporting career, Tokas is employed with Indian Railways. He is known by the nickname “Jerry” among some circles. Physical details recorded in public profiles list black hair and black eyes and a B+ blood group. He has spoken to media outlets about both his victories and the setbacks from injuries that shaped his competitive trajectory.

Latest updates
The most notable recent highlight for Tokas was the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. That year also saw him active at domestic railway championships and preparing for further international assignments. As of 2022 he was 29 years old and continuing his boxing career while balancing his employment with Indian Railways.
