Rohit Yadav Biography
Rohit Yadav is an Indian javelin thrower from Dabhiya Village, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Born on 6 June 2001, he has competed nationally and internationally,
Early life and backgroundRohit Yadav was born on 6 June 2001 in Dabhiya Village, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in a sporting family: his father Sabhajeet Yadav was a decathlete and his mother is Pushpa Devi. Rohit has two brothers, Rahul and Rohan; Rahul is also an athlete. Financial constraints in his childhood shaped the early stages of his javelin training. His father fashioned practice implements from bamboo and coached him in the village until Rohit could access proper equipment and coaching.
Rohit attended Tilak Dhari P.G. College in Jaunpur between 2019 and 2022. He later took up employment with the Indian Railways and in September 2020 began working at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi.
Career
Rohit established himself in junior competitions before moving to senior-level events. He claimed a district-level victory in 2014 with a 49 m throw. A breakout moment came in July 2016 when he won gold at the World School Games with a throw of 72.57 m. In 2017 he won silver at the Asian Youth Athletics Championship in Bangkok.
Coached by Kashinath Naik and later by Uwe Hohn, Rohit also received remote technical input from international coach Michael Musselman after a sports consultancy connected them. Under this guidance he refined his technique through video analysis and feedback.
Rohit has won medals across age-group and national competitions: gold at the Mokpo International Athletics Throwing Meeting in 2019, gold at the 36th National Junior Athletics Championships in 2021, and a gold at the National Federation Cup in Thenhipalam in April 2022 with a throw of 81.83 m. At the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship in Chennai in June 2022 he recorded a personal-best mark of 82.54 m and took silver; other series marks at that meet included 82.45 m, 82.07 m and 80.49 m.
On 22 July 2022 Rohit qualified for the final round of the World Athletics Championships 2022 with a qualifying throw of 80.42 m. He has consistently participated in national and international meets, including the Indian Open Throws Competition, Indian Grand Prix events, and the World Athletics Championships in 2019 and 2022.
Public profile
Rohit stands 183 cm (6') tall and, as of listings, weighed 74 kg. He has black hair and black eyes. He represents the Indian athletics contingent in javelin and trains alongside high-profile Indian throwers; he is noted to be good friends with Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, and they share coaching under Uwe Hohn.
Rohit’s career has not been without setbacks. In 2017 he tested positive for the banned substance stanozolol in a National Anti-Doping Agency test; the result led to a one-year ban from 21 May 2017 to 21 May 2018. Rohit has spoken publicly about the episode, describing the period as a challenging moment that motivated him to return and prove himself on the field.
Latest updates
In 2022 Rohit recorded multiple strong performances: a National Federation Cup gold in April, a personal-best 82.54 m and silver at the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship in June, and qualification for the World Athletics Championships final in July. Off the field, he is employed with Indian Railways and continues to train and compete at the national and international level.
Rohit remains unmarried and continues to develop his javelin career with national coaches and international support, building on early lessons from his family and village-based beginnings.
