Early life and background

Vivek V. Mashru was born on 27 September 1983 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Raised in the city he calls home, he attended several schools in Bengaluru, including The Frank Anthony Public School, Good Shepherd International School and GD Matriculation Higher Secondary School. His early years included active participation in sports such as skating, hockey, swimming, athletics, taekwondo and badminton, and he also took part in theatre and dance during his school and college days.

Career

Vivek began working in the entertainment industry in the early 2000s. Between 2002 and 2003 he was associated with Prasad Bidapa Associates in Bengaluru in roles that combined acting and production support. As an actor he appeared in several Hindi films and television productions. Notable screen work from that period includes roles in the movies Morning Raga (2004) and Fight Club: Members Only (2006), and appearances in television serials such as Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bo (2005) and Aankhen (2005).

He is widely recognised for portraying sub-inspector Vivek in the long-running Colors TV episodic series CID, a part he played from 2006 until 2012. That role brought him public recognition and awards for his work on the show.

Alongside screen acting, Vivek has experience in other areas of filmmaking and theatre. In 2012 he contributed to the Hindi short film Checkmate, working across lighting, story, dialogue, camera, costume, production, direction and make-up. He has also performed in stage productions such as the play Insulting the Audience, directed by Rehaan Engineer.

After his initial period in acting and modelling, Mashru expanded into business and education. He has held a variety of managerial and leadership roles: manager of operations at Vivek Avenues in 2013; director of marketing at Indus International Schools from 2015 to 2020; and general manager of marketing at Vijaybhoomi University and associated institutions from September 2020 to January 2021. In April 2021 he joined the CMR Group of Institutions as a specialist in strategy and innovation, and later became head of the common core curriculum at CMR University in October 2021. In June 2022 he was promoted to director of the common core curriculum.

Educational background

Vivek pursued higher education with an international and interdisciplinary focus. He completed a Master’s in International Business at Grenoble Ecole de Management, Singapore (2013–2015). He has undertaken programs in analytics and data science, including a certification in Analytics for Beginners (2016), a PG Program in Data Science and Business Analytics at Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai (2020–2021), and a Post Graduate Program in Data Science and Business Analytics at The University of Texas at Austin (2020).

Vivek spent part of his youth working as a model and took part in photoshoots before his on-screen acting career developed.
