Yashashri Masurkar was born on 30 December 1986 in Mumbai, India. She grew up in the Mumbai area and completed her schooling at G.J. Vartak Vidyalaya in Vasai. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mumbai University. From an early age she appeared on Marathi television as a child-host and later took on modest jobs including a stint as a radio jockey with All India Radio and brief work in a BPO before moving into acting full time.

Career

Masurkar's onscreen career spans both television and film, and includes work in Marathi and Hindi languages. Her television debut credits include the Marathi serial Laxman Resha (listed as a TV debut) and an early Hindi role in Rang Badalti Odhani (2010), where she gained significant visibility playing Khanak Khandelwal. That role, and her on-screen chemistry with co-stars, brought her into the national spotlight.

In 2011 she joined the cast of Chandragupta Maurya on NDTV Imagine as Mrignayani, though she left the show after a period. Over the following years she continued to build a steady television résumé with appearances in series such as Sanskaar – Dharohar Apnon Ki, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat (as Agnishikha in 2015), Krishnadasi (2016), and Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se (2013), where her negative-role portrayal of Sumitra drew strong audience reactions and critical attention.

Masurkar made her film debut in Marathi cinema with Laal Ishq (2016), playing the character Nisha. She later appeared in the film Kabaad: The Coin (2021) as Savita. Her Marathi television credits include the serial Laxman Resha (credited as a Marathi debut in some listings).

Outside of acting, she has worked as a voice-over artist and has appeared in live events internationally. In 2019 she participated in a World Film Festival presentation in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, where she also served as a judge for a ramp show.

Public profile

Masurkar has described herself as non-vegetarian and cites a love for travel, dancing and photography. In interviews she has named Meryl Streep and Naseeruddin Shah among her favourite actors and has singled out Shyam Benegal's film Mandi as a particular favourite.

Her television roles have occasionally prompted strong public responses. After playing a negative character on Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se she reported receiving hostile comments from people who recognized her in public. She has spoken candidly in media conversations about personal challenges from her childhood and about her desire to provide for her parents.

In October 2022 Masurkar joined the cast of the reality series Bigg Boss Marathi Season 4 as a contestant. During her time on the show she recalled personal memories tied to her upbringing and described how participating in the program allowed her to confront and reframe painful past experiences.
