Yukta Mookhey was born on 7 October 1977 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and spent the first seven years of her life in Dubai. Raised in a Sindhi family, she pursued higher education in India, graduating from V. G. Vaze College in Mumbai and later earning a diploma in computer applications. She studied zoology at college and also trained in Indian classical music for three years.

Career

Mookhey first became widely known after winning Femina Miss India World in 1999. That victory led to her representing India at the 49th Miss World pageant in London, where she was crowned Miss World 1999. At Miss World she also received the Asia & Oceania Queen of Beauty title. Her crowning of Priyanka Chopra at the 2000 Miss World ceremony marked the first time a former Miss World passed the title to another winner from the same country.

Following her success in pageants, Mookhey worked in film and modeling.
