Early life and background

Dhananjay Powar was born on 13 July 1977 in Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Raised in a middle-class Marathi family, he attended local schools in Ichalkaranji and pursued higher education at institutions that include Shivaji University, DKTE Textile and Engineering Institute and Savitribai Phule Pune University. He grew up alongside his sister Pinky and is the son of Ajit and Ashwini Powar.

Career

Powar built a varied business portfolio in Kolhapur and Ichalkaranji before gaining visibility as an online creator. He owns a furniture outlet called The Society Furniture and operates a sportswear shop in Kolhapur. With his wife Kalyani, he runs a saree shop named Aaisaheb Vastram in Ichalkaranji. He also holds a franchise for a tea and coffee brand under the name DP Amruttulya.

When the COVID-19 lockdown temporarily closed his physical outlets, Powar began recording short comedy clips at home and posting them on social media. Those videos — often centered on everyday family situations and husband-wife banter — found an audience and increased his public profile. His content frequently featured family members; while his mother and wife supported the videos from the start, his father initially objected before joining in as the online response grew.

Powar’s work as a content creator and his local businesses together define his public persona: a creator who draws on familiar domestic scenes and a businessman with several retail ventures.

Public profile

On social platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, Powar shares his short-format comedy and family-oriented sketches. His on-screen nickname is DP, and he is identified professionally as a social media influencer, YouTuber and businessman. Physically, he is listed at about 5 feet 7 inches (170 cm) with black eyes and salt-and-pepper hair.

Personal life

Dhananjay is married to Kalyani Powar, a businesswoman; the couple wed in November 2008. They have two children: a son, Harshvardhan (known as Harsh), and a daughter, Janhavi. His family features prominently in his videos and business activities. Powar’s tattoos include his children’s names on his right forearm and his wife’s name on his left forearm.

Outside of work and content creation, Powar is a devoted follower of Lord Ganesha. He enjoys cricket — having taken part in the Maratha Premier League — and likes to travel when he has leisure time. He is described as non-vegetarian and favors mutton and tea.

Latest updates

In 2024 Powar expanded his public reach by appearing as a contestant on the reality television series Bigg Boss Marathi season 5, which aired on Colors Marathi. The show marked his debut in mainstream reality television and introduced him to a wider regional audience.

Overall, Dhananjay Powar’s profile blends small-business entrepreneurship with a comedic social-media presence rooted in family dynamics. His background in retail and his rise as a creator during the pandemic illustrate how local entrepreneurs adapted content and commerce to build new audiences.
