Joke Singh (Nishant Tanwar) Biography
Nishant Singh Tanwar, known on stage as Joke Singh and sometimes The Rider, is an Indian stand-up comedian, live streamer and rapper from Jamnagar who has
Early life and backgroundNishant Singh Tanwar was born on 7 November 1982 in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He spent his school years at the Air Force School in Jamnagar and later moved to New Delhi, which he lists as his hometown. Describing himself as an introvert during school, he developed humour as a coping mechanism against bullying; sharp comebacks and observational lines helped shape his early comic instincts.
Career
Nishant began his professional life in the corporate world, taking a job at a BPO in Gurgaon in 2003. That period marked the beginning of a long personal and professional relationship: he met Rukshi there, who left soon after to study mass communication and later worked as a television producer. In 2005 Nishant left the BPO and joined the same media firm where Rukshi worked, initially as an unpaid intern and later as an assistant producer.
While working at the news channel he began exploring open-mic nights in Delhi, performing his first shows in 2009. A turning point arrived in 2012 when a photograph on Page 3 alerted his boss to his side work in comedy; presented with a choice between the job and the stage, he opted to pursue stand-up full time.
Nishant established himself on India’s live comedy circuit, founding IPL (Improv Premier League), a Delhi-based improv group, and creating Please Interrupt, promoted as India’s first heckler’s show built around audience–performer interaction. His live work expanded beyond India: by 2020 he had performed in more than a dozen countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore and the Netherlands.
On digital platforms he has built a steady presence. He uploads stand-up clips and runs a podcast called Mahacool baatein on his YouTube channel, where he interviews comedians and other creators. He also sells branded merchandise through his own website.
Nishant has released comedy specials on major streaming platforms: Dilli Se Hoon B*@!#D arrived on Amazon Prime Video in 2018, followed by Gaadi Tera Bhai Chalayega in 2019. He has appeared on television comedy formats such as Comedy Dangal and is among a small group of Indian comedians featured on Comedy Central’s site.
Beyond stand-up, Nishant has explored music and streaming. A self-described fan of hip-hop, he released a rap single in 2020 titled Mere Desh Ki Kahani to mark India’s 74th Independence Day. During the COVID-19 pandemic he launched a streaming channel under the Rider OP name, which contributed to the nickname The Rider.
Personal life
Nishant is married to Rukshi Tanwar; the couple married on 14 February 2011. They have two children: a son named Neil and a younger daughter. His parents are listed as Jagdish Singh Tanwar (father) and his mother, whose name is not provided in the available information.
He is an Indian national, follows Hinduism, and is a non-vegetarian. Physically he is listed at about 173 cm (5'8") in height, with black eyes and a bald head. He has multiple tattoos, including one on his right bicep that reads JOKE with a microphone design and other characters on his arms.
Public profile
Nishant performs under the stage name Joke Singh and also uses the moniker The Rider. His profile grew through live tours, digital content and streaming, and he has cultivated a reputation for crowd interaction and improv. He has run tours such as The Mahacool Tour, which reflected both his live-show ambitions and the persistence that carried him from early failures in business to international stages.
