Mithoon Sharma was born on 11 January 1985 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a family steeped in musical tradition. His grandfather, Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma, was a respected musician and teacher, and his father Naresh Sharma worked as a film score arranger across many Hindi films. Mithoon began formal music training at age eleven under his father’s guidance and later studied with other trained musicians in the industry. He is also a trained jazz pianist.

Career

Mithoon’s involvement with film music traces back to the mid-2000s. His early work includes the 2005 Bollywood songs "Woh Lamhe" for Zeher and "Aadat" for Kalyug. He began composing in 2006 and received a composing opportunity from director Onir for the film Bas Ek Pal, contributing songs including "Bas Ek Pal," sung by KK, and "Tere Bin," sung by Atif Aslam. By 2007 he had further recognition with compositions such as "Tose Naina Lage" and "Maula Mere" from Anwar and later charting tracks from The Train.

Mithoon scored music for the Malaysian film Diva (2007) in collaboration with Malaysian R&B singer Ning Baizura, and he has worked on non-film projects too, writing songs for artists' albums such as Atif Aslam’s Doorie and Abhijeet Sawant’s Junoon. In 2009 he released his own album Tu Hi Mere Rab Ki Tarah Hai in partnership with T-Series, involving collaborations with musicians in the United Kingdom and work with members of a philharmonic orchestra.

Several of his compositions became major hits and helped introduce or elevate singers’ careers. Songs like "Phir Mohabbat" from Murder 2 (2011) and especially "Tum Hi Ho" from Aashiqui 2 (2013) brought him widespread recognition.
