Narayan Jagadeesan was born on 24 December 1995 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Raised in a family with a cricketing influence, his father C.J. Narayan played for Tata Electric Company in Mumbai and inspired Narayan to take up the game. He began playing cricket at the age of nine and later completed a commerce degree at PSG College in Coimbatore.

On 21 November 2022, while playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he produced an extraordinary individual innings of 277 off 141 balls against Arunachal Pradesh, which is recorded as the highest individual score in men’s List A cricket. During the same sequence of matches he also achieved the feat of scoring five consecutive centuries in List A cricket.

In the Indian Premier League auction for 2018 he was picked up by Chennai Super Kings with a quoted fee of ₹20 Lakhs.
