Early life and backgroundNaveen Kasturia was born on 26 January 1985 in Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria and grew up in Delhi, India. He attended Birla Vidya Niketan in Pushp Vihar for his school education and went on to study Manufacturing Process and Automation Engineering at Netaji Subhas University of Technology, Delhi. His family includes his father Santosh Kasturia, a maths teacher, his mother Veena Paul Kasturia, noted as a marathon runner, and a sister named Neha Kasturia.
During his youth he developed an early interest in films and theatre. While at college he wrote and acted in plays; one of his student plays, Lo Kr Lo Ji Baat, gained popularity in that setting. After graduation he began working in the corporate sector, including roles at Inductis in Gurgaon and later at J.P. Morgan Chase in Mumbai, before shifting his focus toward a career in the film industry.

Kasturia’s entry into the film world began behind the camera. He worked as an assistant director on several Hindi films, including Jashnn (credited as his first assistant-director film work), Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), Shanghai (2012) and Tigers (2014).
