Early life and backgroundPallavi Dey was born on 23 February 1997 in Howrah, West Bengal. She grew up in a middle-class family in Howrah, completed her schooling at Santragachi Bhanumati Girls High School and graduated from the University of Calcutta. She was Indian by nationality and her zodiac sign was Pisces.
Her parents were Nilu Dey and Sangita Dey, and she had a younger brother. In her free time she enjoyed travelling, cooking, reading and listening to music. She was an animal lover and kept pets, including a rabbit named Dustu and a dog named Raw.
Career
Dey began her television career in Bengali serials. Her on-screen debut came in 2017 when she played Supriya in Tobu Mone Rekho. Over the next several years she appeared in a series of Bengali TV soaps, including Aami Sirajer Begum, in which she portrayed Lutfunnisa Begum; Resham Jhanpi, which brought her wider recognition; Kunjo Chaya (2019); and Saraswatir Prem (2020).
In 2021 she took on the role of Gauri in the Bengali television serial Mon Mane Na, appearing opposite actor Samm Bhattacharya. At approximately 165 cm (5 ft 5 in) tall, Dey worked as both an actress and model and maintained a public profile in regional television.

Pallavi was also known by the name Pallabi Dey and by nicknames such as Mistuu and Mishti. She used social media during her career, and elements of her personal life were public: she drank alcohol on celebratory occasions, had a tattoo on her right forearm, and enjoyed tea and cricket.
In her personal relationships she was unmarried and in a long-term relationship with Sagnik Chakraborty. In February 2021 he proposed to her with a ring. At the time of her death she lived with Chakraborty in a rented flat in Garfa, Kolkata.
Death and aftermath
Pallavi Dey died on 15 May 2022 at the age of 25. She was found in her rented flat in Garfa, Kolkata and taken to M. R. Bangur Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Initial statements from investigators described the discovery of her hanging and a provisional classification of the case as an apparent suicide pending the post-mortem report. The autopsy later reported no injuries on her body and concluded that she had taken her own life.
Following her death, police questioned her partner, and an investigation examined inconsistencies in his statements and aspects of his employment. Pallavi’s father raised concerns and alleged the involvement of others; he later filed a complaint that led to charges being registered. The deputy commissioner for the south suburban division of Kolkata police stated that Chakraborty was booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code that included murder, cheating and criminal breach of trust among others. Media reports also noted that investigators spoke to Pallavi’s domestic help, who had had contact with her on the day of the incident.
Her passing prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues. Co-star Samm Bhattacharya publicly expressed his shock and sorrow and paid tribute to her work on Mon Mane Na.
