Early life and background

Aadit Palicha was born in 2001 and grew up between Mumbai and Dubai. He attended GEMS Modern Academy in Dubai, where he completed the IB Diploma with a focus on mathematics and computer science and graduated as valedictorian. During his school years he was active in debating, serving as president of the Modern Debating Society and as deputy head boy. His family has roots in Mumbai and Gujarat; his father is an engineer and his mother has worked as a chief executive.

Career

Palicha’s first public entrepreneurial effort came while he was still at school. Together with a childhood friend, Kaivalya Vohra, he developed a carpooling app called GoPool to help parents coordinate school runs in Dubai. The project received a grant to support development and emphasized sustainability and reduced vehicle use.

After school, Palicha enrolled at Stanford University to study computer science but discontinued his degree. Between mid-2019 and early 2020 he worked as project lead on PryvaSee, an AI project focused on summarizing privacy policies.

Returning to Mumbai during the Covid-19 pandemic, Palicha and Vohra launched KiranaKart in June 2020 to provide faster grocery deliveries in the city. They closed that venture the following year and founded Zepto in April 2021 with the aim of delivering groceries within minutes rather than days. The company’s valuation rose quickly through 2021 and 2022, and in June 2024 Zepto completed a large funding round that doubled its valuation to $3.6 billion.
